WHO WE ARE

A group of volunteers from San Jose, CA who believe in the power of organizing for social change. Our leadership features black, brown, trans, disabled, fat, immigrant, female/femme, and/or queer folks and voices.

OUR VALUES

Making activism accessible to people of all ages, abilities, and experience levels

Reclaiming "family values" to be about radical love in action, and defining family to mean ALL families, whether biological or chosen, with or without children.

Always CENTERING (not just including or accepting) the most marginalized and insisting on intersectionality.

Our History

We started as a loose group of friends, acquaintances, and artists. We organized together for years here in San Jose, always in different pairings, under different banners, and for causes from domestic violence services to racial justice to help for the unhoused. As many of us started to build families, both biological and chosen, we began to support each other in finding ways to incorporate our activism into our rich and rewarding new lives as partners and caregivers. Eventually, Rosa Warren became the lightning rod that brought us all formally together as STAND San Jose.
