#NoDAPL: Call to Action Guide
provided by STAND San José in solidarity with Oceti Sakowin
TEXT NEEDED HERE
This is a suggested template, feel free to make the exact wording your own. Please do respect, though, the wishes of indigenous groups on the ground by referring to them as Protectors, not protesters.
“Hi, my name is _________ and I am calling to demand that you enforce humane treatment of the Water Protectors at Standing Rock and put a stop to any further construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline.
Morton County Police and DAPL officials are putting people at fatal risk by aiming water cannons at peaceful protectors in below freezing conditions, and shooting them with dangerous projectiles. This is unacceptable. Water Protectors are peacefully asserting their treaty rights and human rights, and they are working to ensure clean drinking water for millions of Americans. You must put a stop to this inhumane response, and I urge you to stand on the side of safe water and human rights.* Thank you.”
*ADD ON FOR WHITE HOUSE CALLS
“I also urge President Obama to formally verify the U.S. Government treaty that confirms this land as Native American tribal property. It is not too late for him to make good on his campaign promise recognizing the legality of this treaty, securing his legacy on the environment and respect for indigenous people.”
