Trump's Cabinet: Call to Action Guide

THE ISSUE

President-elect Trump, when not tweeting furiously about Saturday Night Live or throwing temper tantrums about having lost the popular vote, has been working to assemble a cabinet of racists, incompetents, callous billionaires, and GOP has-beens. The most objectionable appointments include (but are in no way limited to):

1) White nationalist, anti-Semite, and violent misogynist Stephen Bannon for chief strategist/advisor;
2) Open racist and anti-voting-rights crusader Jeff Sessions for Attorney General;
3) Anti-Muslim bigot and conspiracy theorist Michael Flynn for National Security Advisor;
4) Rabid Obamacare hater Tom Price for Secretary of Health and Human Services;
5) School privatization champion Betsy DeVos for Education Secretary; and
6) Hedge fund manager and “foreclosure king” Steven Mnuchin for Treasury Secretary.

Some of these positions, such as Bannon’s and Flynn’s, are appointed directly by the President and cannot be blocked by Congress, while others require Senate confirmation. And House Representatives cannot influence staff appointments in any direct way. However, even in cases where our representatives cannot block appointments, they can still publicly oppose them, as 169 House Democrats did in signing a letter protesting Stephen Bannon. These public stances make visible the widespread popular rejection of Trump’s agenda and the reactionaries he will appoint to enact it.
